Bondi Announces Investigation into President's Opponents and Jeffrey Epstein Links
On Friday, the Attorney General assigned Jay Clayton to head an probe into opponents of the President and their links with Jeffrey Epstein. This move came hours after Trump ordered her to launch the probe.
In a statement, Bondi commended Jay Clayton as “among the nation’s top prosecutors”. The official stated, “As with all matters, the department will pursue this with urgency and integrity to deliver answers to the American people.”
This action contrasts with a July memo from justice department officials which stated that the Epstein files did not warrant additional investigations. According to the document, investigators “lacked sufficient evidence to pursue cases against other parties.”
The President Calls for Scrutiny of Political Opponents in the Epstein Matter
This news coincides with growing demands from Trump on congressional Republicans to oppose the full release of files concerning Epstein ahead of an upcoming House vote next week. Many Republicans are expected to support the release.
Newly public communications from Jeffrey Epstein have brought attention to the president’s previous connections with the sex trafficker, including details that he knew more about Epstein’s conduct than he has previously let on.
On Friday, Trump declared he would direct the DOJ to examine Epstein’s ties with Democrats, including prominent individuals such as Clinton, Summers, and Hoffman. Paradoxically, he also referred to the “Epstein hoax” as a “deception”.
