Diving into an Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Piece of Feces in a Mission to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have discovered plenty of interesting creations from small studios. However, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Named Unko Technica, this retro-inspired jumping adventure features a hero that is truly a turd striving to make its way to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."

Player controls is straightforward: you only need a single jump button. Across one hundred fifty levels, you'll face mini-bosses and visit a store to buy skins for your fecal avatar.

Plan your movements carefully, as a error requires starting over. Leap off bubbles to propel your character to new heights, navigate fragile ledges, and touch triggers to unlock secret routes. Earn UN-KOINS to purchase tougher game content as the action ramps up.

In terms of design, the demo features neon stages and an amazing soundtrack. The simple art of morphing geometric shapes evokes memories of fans of classic titles like Earthbound.

Even though tough to think of similar titles where you play as a piece of feces, gaming frequently featured fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can make grenades from character waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as fertilizer. And of course, this theme shows up extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already garnered notable recognition, including being named best at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is ready currently on Steam, with the final release set to arrive on Steam on November 19.
