Marvel's Wonder Man Trailer Unveils The MCU's Most Meta TV Show Ever
The Marvel studio is aware that audiences might be experiencing some superhero exhaustion, so they've decided to incorporate that very concept into their upcoming superhero series.
Indeed, the first trailer for Wonder Man has arrived, and it pledges a meta twist on the MCU.
The trailer, which premiered on October 10th, also quietly pushed the Wonder Man release date back from its original end of 2025 window into early 2026.
Why one more superhero movie? People is tired of superheroes. Why go see them in the cinema? Wonder Man resonated with me on a deep level. There is an chance to shock audiences. To reinvent the whole genre of storytelling.
The reporter responds: "Have you given any thought about casting?"
The trailer then transitions to series star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who's watching the interview on his phone, and the preview ends.
Key Details About Wonder Man
We already knew that Wonder Man would be a meta take on the MCU. The series features Abdul-Mateen II as the character Simon Williams, a film star who transforms into a superhero (the hero Wonder Man).
The supporting cast includes actor Ben Kingsley returning as Iron Man 3's Trevor Slattery, Demetrius Grosse as Eric Williams (also known as Grim Reaper), Ed Harris as Simon's agent Neal Saroyan, and Arian Moayed returning as Department of Damage Control officer P. Cleary.
The Studio's Self-Referential Comedy Strategy
We don't know much else about the storyline of Wonder Man, but it's clear that the studio intends to poke some fun at itself.
In the aftermath of Deadpool & Wolverine, it appears like the production company is fully committed on self-referential comedy. Will this approach succeed without the star power of its previous leads? We'll have to wait and see.
