The Prince of Wales Set to Attend COP30 Climate Summit in South America
Prince William plans to participate in the United Nations climate conference in South America next month, as announced by palace sources.
Prince William and King Charles made a joint appearance on Thursday evening at a gathering leading up to the climate summit, which is planned for in the Amazonian city of Belém.
The royal pair were in attendance at the museum gathering, marking an unusual joint appearance at a pre-COP30 gathering organized in partnership with the UK government.
Climate Leadership Dedication
The King has been a long-time champion of environmental conservation - and Prince William has taken on the baton, with his own Earthshot awards, which will be hosted in Rio preceding the COP summit.
Royal sources have characterized Prince William's attendance at the upcoming climate summit as taking on an significant responsibility in "climate diplomacy".
Recent Engagements
The King and Prince of Wales, arriving together in the state Bentley, were welcomed attendees such as environmentalists, researchers, climate change campaigners, foreign representatives and politicians.
This involvement included speaking alongside President Emmanuel Macron of the French Republic and other global statesmen at the Blue Economy and Finance Forum in the Principality of Monaco earlier this year.
Earthshot Awards Connection
The COP30 summit will align with the the royal's Earthshot environmental awards, which will wrap up in the Brazilian city the eve of he participates in the climate conference on 6 November.
In recent days the prince referred to the prize competitors as "heroes of our time".
Royal Climate Legacy
The King has been a prominent presence at earlier environmental conferences, giving the opening address in Dubai for the 28th Conference of Parties, including the observation: "We are custodians of the planet, not its owners".
"I have spent a significant amount of my life trying to raise awareness about the critical dangers challenging our world over planetary heating, climate change and ecological decline," the sovereign addressed participants.
